I have a Lyman & Hornady loading guides. Looking at 223/556 loads. Lyman calls for Remington 7 1/2 for 223 with 77gr and Hornady calls for Winchester WSR for 556.
All I have been able to locate is CCI #41. Anyone know if any are interchangeable or have any leads where I should look for Rem and Winchester primers? |

Manuals rarely call for certain primers. They simply list the primers used in the loads they tested.
Magnum primers tend to be used with ball powders. Harder cups are helpful in designs with floating firing pins. With each rifle being different, reloading manuals are a reference point. |

CCI #41 or any other small rifle primer should be just fine as long as you work your load up appropriately. This. The guide just call out example primers for their loads. All primers will be VERY similar. In fact, CCI #41's are my fave for making standard .223 loads for the AR15. |
| The only primers I use for .223/5.56 loads are RP 7 1/2 and have tested CCI 41's. Very small difference in my tests with CCI 41 appearing to be slightly hotter? Seems 41's always give me up to 30 or so fps more velocity than RP 7 1/2's. Unless you're at maximum pressure then they could be interchanged. |

For my .223/5.56mm loads I've used CCI, Federal, Remington, Winchester, Tula and Wolf. I've not had any issues with any of them and cannot tell any difference in accuracy for the type of shooting I do (Run n' Gun, Training out to 500 yards).
I will typically use whatever I can get the best deal on. |
