I've been following my uncle's recipe, using his press for 10mm loads.  I don't have the card in front of me, but I think it is 9.1 grains of VihtaVuori N105 powder for a 180 grain projectile.  Since I am about to get my own press up and running, I was wondering if there were any other powders that I should be considering?  I know that VihtaVuori is pretty much an order only item as no one around here stocks it and he always ordered his.

Some to check out for good hot 10mm:
Power Pistol, Blue Dot, Longshot.

800X is a velocity queen for sure. It doesn't meter for crap, so expect to hand trickle or use a powder dispenser.

Best bet for easy metering and petformance is Hodgdons Longshot.

My personal second is, believe it or not, CFEpistol.

Both meter excellent and can be a multi use powders.

I use AA #7 for .380acp to 10mm. Have used it for nearly 20 years, found no need to try anything else. Flows from your measure like water.

Never used the N105 which produces the highest velocity according to VV. I love 3N37 and while not as speedy as their N105 it meters great and has a very low ES.
Like others here I also load 10mm with Blue Dot.

AutoComp mid range load pushes a 180 FMJ to a touch over 1200 fps out of a 6" barrel for me.

N105 is my powder of choice for full power loads. I only wish it came in 4 lbs. containers.

Blue Dot and HS6 are my main two powders for 10mm loads.  Would like to try BE86, but have not seen any up here yet.

I may stick with N105 because I like the results.  But you know how that goes for someone diving into a hobby for the first time, I want to try other stuff too.

I stopped using AA7 because it gummed up the charge bar on my 550B really bad due to how fine the grains are. I had to disassemble the powder drop every 200 rounds or so to clean it because it was binding so badly.

I have had the same trouble with both my powder measures with AA#7

I mostly use BD and PP. CFE is slowly making it's way into my normal 10mm powders.

I use a RCBS(Uniflo) measure with it, no issues. Hornady measure for 10mm, no issues there either. Both used on my LNL-AP.

I loaded up some 180gr HST pulls with 800x and was right at 1400fps

I went to Longshot and was just short of the 1400 of the 800x

I settled with Longshot at about 1340fps, I dropped back from the max.

These were both with virgin Starline brass, I would not load once fired brass to these pressures.

Longshot was a good performer and meters well.

If I was making up some hard cast loads and needing max velocity I would go with the 800x and weigh each charge.

Hi; just started loading 10mm; here's the mix I'm using...

BULLET - Rainier 155gr. flat nosed FMJ
POWDER - AA #9 - 14 grains (as per Lyman 49th Edition loading manual)
PRIMER - CCI 300 Large Pistol (non-Magnum)
BRASS - Virgin Starline.

I will be firing these out of a Colt Delta Elite 1911 Govet. Model with a Barsto barrel. I have already loaded a test batch of 16 bullets for testing. What do you guys think?

Cool Story Bro?

I mostly use my 10mm for deer hunting, so I am looking for max / near max loads with 180 or 200 grain bullets.  Longshot has become my favorite power.  It meters great, accuracy is very good, and velocities are fantastic.  A close second is Bluedot, but it doesn't meter as well as Longshot, and the muzzle flash is huge.  Before discovering Longshot, AA #7 was my powder of choice.

Another vote for IMR 800X.  I use it to push 180 gr and 200gr  XTP from my S&W 610.  1300fps with the 180gr and 1250 with the 200gr bullet.  Took two does with that setup this season.  Meters poorly but a scale and trickle charger fixes that.  Not loading huge volume so weight 50-100 charges is not big deal.  It's reasonable clean and no flash.

That load is really close to my 158gr XTP .357 Magnum load.

Is that bullet a true Full Metal Jacket or only a plated bullet?

Have to keep an eye on velocities with plated, plating can "peel" off at high speeds.

Most manufacturers claim they're good to 1500fps, I have found this to be wishful thinking.

My custom 10mm has a 6" slide and barrel and Power Pistol works the best for full power loads giving me high velocities while not giving as much muzzle flash as BlueDot.

If plated are loaded correctly, i.e. not cut through by over crimping, they are fine at velocities well above 1500fps.  Plated bullets are taper crimped, never roll crimped, no matter what reloading manuals recommend for the caliber.  I've shoot thousands of plated 110grn 30 Carbine at 1900fps, thousands of plated 158grn 357mag in leverguns at 1950fps, hundreds of plated 165grn 10mm at 1550+fps, and even hundreds of plated 150grn .308 30-30 at 2000fps over the past dozen years.  The 30 Carbine, 30-30, and 357mag I shoot out to 300yds with decent accuracy as well.  Very early on I realized that you can't over crimp or risk cutting through the plating, I've had exactly zero issues with them.  I suspect that johndm1967's issues are related to overcrimping.
