Not really repackaging so much as making it easier to handle.

I just poured the last of my one pound can of cFE pistol into the hopper and I'm almost done with it. My next can is an eight pound jug. I'm not going to mix the powders. I will empty the hopper before filling with new powder.

Am I crazy to go from the eight to the one to the hopper?

Thanks

As long as you don't get the powder mixed up, you should have no problem.

I use up the single pound, when I need to add more powder to the PM I add from the 8 pounder and keep loading.

Save the 1 pound can and just keep it full from the 8 pounder.

Mark 1 pound can with the lot number from the 8 pounder.

Been doing that for years.

As one container grew empty, I mixed different lot numbers of the same powder for years without mishap before I 'learned' it was dangerous.

The last 0.5-1 ounce or so mixed with a pound of the new stuff, never had a problem.

YMMV

That's a great illustration, dryflash3.  You're using a tried-and-true materials management technique.  The smaller container has the right label, it's easier to handle and manage, and adding the correct data from the larger container gives you accurate information on the material you're using.  I've seen this process used with items that had lot numbers, expiration dates, "opened on" dates and other data.

And it's MUCH easier to handle a 4 pound or 8 pound keg at bench level instead of trying to use one to fill a powder measure!

It's not like I invented the wheel, just common sense I think.

I poured from the 8lb jug into the powder measure until I almost dropped a full one on the floor.

I then started the method that most of you use now, filling up a one pound jug from the 8lber.

I do this also, the only challenge is pouring through a funnel out of a 8# and not overfilling a 1#.

Stop ocassionally and make sure you don't overflow spill.
