Bought a Hornady load manual but USPS has done me a favor and sent it all over the country. In the meantime I'd like to get some loading done for an upcoming hunting trip.

Can anyone share with me Hornady load data for this projectile in .308? I'll be using RL15 out of a 24" Savage bolt.  Winchester brass

Thanks

Cannot reply....  We don't know what cartridge you are loading for?  308?  300 Win?  300 AAC Blackout?

For .308 bolt gun?

What brass?

Hornady used Hornady/Frontier brass for their data.
Primer:  Federal 210
Case trim: 2.005"
COL with 165gr BTSP Interlock: 2.750"

Start load is:

35.2gr of RL-15

The maxed at:

44.3gr, which was 2600fps from a 22" Model 70 Winchester

Herp derp.  You mean you can't read my mind?!?!!

.308.  Updated OP

Thanks for the info.  Interested to hear if anyone has any preferences on loads if y'all shoot this.  Of course I will start at min but doesn't hurt to see what others are doing.

Will be going on my first hog hunt here soon.  Remington CoreLok get a lot of good reviews for pigs and this seems to be Hornady's equivalent.  I normally shoot 175gr projectiles for paper punching so I'm thinking the 165s will shoot similarly.  Hoping so, anyway.  Thought about getting some of the new GMKs but those are almost $1 each!

For hogs, go with a lighter load that is almost recoilless, so you can see your impacts.

You have more than enough gun with reduced loads, and too much gun with full power.

Behind the ear shots are the ticket for static shot placement.

You will want to be able to track the shot on the runners and have a steady gun.

So you think 150s would have been a better choice?  I believe Academy had some of those as well.  I may go back and get a box and put the 165s on the shelf for another day if that's the case.  I hadn't thought about that but it makes sense.

The 165's will be fine with lower pressure loads, especially if you are shooting within 200yds for most of the shots, with occasional longer shots.

BC on the 165 SP is in the low .4s, plenty of reach out to 300yds if you need that.

The 165gr BTSP has better SD for penetration, and has good expansion with the soft point.

Even with a reduced load at 2400fps, you have expansion out to 300yds.  That would be a pretty light load in a 24" barrel.

2500fps is plenty.
