I use these CCI mil primers for both the 5.56 and the 308 not because I have to, because I want to. They burn hotter for igniting ball powder loads and are very consistent.

When I stared loading 40 years ago, I made the decision to standardize on one brand of primers to simplify load development.

There are more and less expensive primers out there.  I find them consistent and almost always available.

Everyone will tell you they are not needed, and they probably aren't, but they are all I use.

well, thats what i'd like to do..but just keeping my options open.. i like the Federal 205mAR's... just curious as to other options.  i'm trying to build up supplies..and i've made a list of powders for the 223/556 that are suitable for the 223 from 55gr - 80gr.. this should make it easier for me when the time is needed...but i'm locked on the VIHTAVOURI powder for now..  thanks for the input!

To me they feel more "Smooth" seating them. More consistent. I think the thicker cup helps.

I picked up some blue box CCI when there was nothing to be found, and everyone felt different seating them.

They have worked themselves to the back of the shelf...

Im running a Timney trigger and never had a light strike with the #41

Feel free to pay the extra but I have used Magtech, Federal, CCI, Winchester, Tula, and Wolf, and they all worked fine except for the standard 223 Wolf primers which did not like ball powder.

5.56mm and .308 use different primers. 5.56 use #41, .308 use #34 primers.

The key to seating primers is to seat them .002 to .003 below flush.

I uniform the primer pockets to achieve this.

I have never used or needed the CCI mil primers.

I too use CCI 41 primers. I just feel like one slam fire accident is one to many.

What are the differences between the #41 and the 450?

I don't think they're worth the small premium.

Never had a problem with the 40,000 of regular CCI's I've used
