I would like to start loading for this caliber.  I already have Starline brass and CCI350 primers.  I also have IMR 4198 powder.  Bullets I intend to load are the 300gr Hornady JHP, 500gr Hornady Interlock, and 500gr Hornady DGX.  I will be putting these through a 10.5" SBR with a Bowers Vers50 suppressor.  I've tried to get signed up at  458socomforums.com but thus far the admins have not responded (somewhat of a silly and cumbersome way to get signed up but I digress).  I have searched and found various load listings however some of the data is wildly different/inconsistent. Two sources claim 26.5 as the max load for this combination of brass/powder/bullet while the third determines max at 22.6 using Quickload.  As I understand it, QL can be hit and miss with subsonic loads.  However, that nearly four grain difference is concerning and muddies where I might start load development.

Before I start load development, I'd like to hear from others who have loaded and shot this caliber though.  I usually use reloading manuals to start load development but this caliber doesn't have a SAAMI spec yet?

The user 'big bore' would be one that is knowledgeable on your question, he plays around a lot in the AR Variants forum.  Maybe try a PM.

+1 Short of getting hold of Marty or Tony Rumore directly, big bore is the man when it comes to the .458 Socom.  IIRC he may also be the guy to get in touch with regarding the 458socomforums.com site as well

I've loaded it with H-110 and 300's with good results. Never used 4198.
