One of the reasons I got into reloading was because I have a 243 WSSM and from what I can tell Winchester does not manufacture the ammo anymore (or anyone else). I finally got around to trying to load some up today. I was setting my seater die realized too late that my Hornady Kinetic Puller will not hold the case to pull the bullet. I have limited
cases and don't want to waste any. Is there any other way to pull the bullet or am I just going to have to get a press mounted puller? And second, is there anyone else out there that loads this cartridge? Any preferred loads or things I should be aware of? |

WSSM brass is short and it is thick.
After sizing fired cases make sure these empty sized cases fit in your chamber before you load any powder and bullets. This will help eliminate the need to pull bullets. Gather as much data as you can for you choice of powder. Don't forget the Powder Distributors sites. Hodgdon, Western, Alliant. You can also get Free online data from Nosler. Start Low and Work Up. This will help eliminate the need to pull bullets. I have a Kinetic pull and you are correct the WSM's do not fit. I also have 2 300WSM and 1 WSSM and I have not yet found the need to pull any bullets. If I did have to pull a bullet or two, I would remove the die from the press, place the offending round in the shell holder, Raise the bullet up into the opening, grab it with a pair of Dikes then lower the ram. Yes, it will mess up the bullet, but all other components will be saved, especially your precious WSSM Brass. You can see how this is done in this video, technique #3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEBFwVyNNqg |
