Obviously, if you are in this forum it is likely because you are interested in reloading and ballistics. In that spirit, I would like to offer a Caldwell chronograph with smartphone connectivity to an individual who needs one. By that, I mean someone who maybe has trouble affording one, or maybe can't get it past the wife . I can take care of shipping costs if you can't afford it (believe me...I made $18,000 last year..I know what not having money is like)...but I currently make $20,000/year so if I cover shipping it'll be the cheapest method possible because I'm still flat broke. This chronograph has been used once to get some speeds for a 9mm load, then put in my garage. It's about 3 months old. If you care about WHY I am giving this away, then read on. I bought this chrono, and took it out one day to test it. It was working great, but as the sun began coming directly overhead and bright (Arizona), it starting throwing me errors. Now, I had tested it initially indoors, and it worked great. It's just when bright sun is directly overhead that it was giving me troubles. I called Caldwell, and they offered to send a model with the newer chip in it that supposedly solves this issue. Due to receiving that one, I now have the first one I bought. As I said, it has been used a grand total of two times and works GREAT besides the "direct sun" issue. They suggested using it under some sort of shade (E-Z up, canopy, etc) or making a larger sun shade for it. Just post an "I'll take it" if you're interested in it. |

Nice.
RE: in sun, you can tape a target over the existing sunscreens, which should let enough light through w/out freaking out the 'problematic' sensors. I went through the same thing, but - had a friend shoot my first Caldwell, which he replaced with what turned out to be a unit with the sensor issues. Caldwell replaced that one, so I pulled the sensors out of the shot chrono and put into the second chrono with the flaky sensors, and we lucked out - he now has a working chrono and I have a working chrono. Good CS from Caldwell - I had my doubts on how the sensor issue was going to be resolved, but it was painless, and they got me the replacement when they said they would. |

Well darn I could really use one and money is tight currently ($$$ unexpected medical bills lately). But besides that is this a decent chrono? I was looking at this one before. Maybe this fall I can grab one. I had some hesitation at first, and was happy with my ProChrono, except for when the range got busy - the remote kit costs as much as the chrono, and waiting for a cold range to change groups...blows. When I got my first Caldwell, I shot several batches of ammo through it and the ProChrono on the same day, and the results were consistent across both of them, so - thumbs up. The first version of their software was pretty basic, but it's improved quite a bit since then, including the ability to take/store a target picture alongside each group/load tested. For the $, it's tough to beat. |
