I'm looking to purchase my first chrono and need advice on which chrono to stay away from brand / model
Any tips that you have learned along the way. please don't state the obvious (don't shoot it) Price range- the best I need to perform competition reloading along with accuracy minded reloading for hunting? |

I've got a ProChrono and a Caldwell.
The ProChrono is IMO (and others) the best of the reasonably priced chronos, without the odd user interface of some of the others, and usually runs damned close to the various chronos used at competitions. I was hesitant on the Caldwell, as it's not a name I associate w/high quality w/out thought, but the Caldwell lets you use your phone or tablet as a remote display w/out paying another $100+, and runs within a few FPS of my Pro Chrono consistently. It has some nits - mainly, you can't really do strings w/out your phone or tablet, just single shot readouts on the unit itself, and sometimes it's finicky connecting between the (Android) phone and device, but I'll just power cycle the chrono and/or unplug and plug the cable back in BEFORE setting the chrono out on the range until I see a connection. After a connection is established, it's rock solid - have shot all day through MANY groups w/out issues. |
