I haven't loaded .40 in eight years - but here I go again.  I can't remember what powders it liked, I don't remember what loads I liked... but a Glock 35 is on its way and I need to get spooled up.

I'll be using it for USPSA shooting limited -

Any advice on dies?  Its also been years since I bought dies.  I have mostly lee dies, but a 9mm set of Hornady's I have also does a great job.

I see Hornady has a Taper crimp seater.  I've always used factory crimp in the fifth station.

Advice?

Also, if you have a great load that makes major with Titegroup I'd love to hear about it -  and yes I'll do my own research and consult a manual and work up the load carefully...

I use Lee carbide dies and they work great, no lube needed.

I just loaded stuff for plinking but BlueDot worked great for me, lots of muzzle flash though.

Oh, I haven't left reloading - I still load quite a bit.  I've just been a crappy consumer and haven't bought new dies in years, and haven't loaded .40 in 8.

Thanks1

I really like Dillon pistol dies. I use a Lyman M die with them on my single stage press (and my 650 XL sometimes too), since Dillon uses the powder die to bell the case mouth. The M die seems to work the brass less when I'm loading cast lead.

My 40 adventures is for my Uzi,, I use 650, RCBS size, RCBS seat,, and will use LEE bare taper die in station 5..  had a LEE factory crimp, didnt see that it did anything for me, so I sold it.. now to order taper die, as I aquired a Glock 22 this past Saturday to keep company with the mags I had laying around

I've no idea what 40 S&W loads to use for competition but the Brian Enos forum has lots of discussions plus a reloading section. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showforum=73

I'm using 200gr Blue Bullets and Bullseye for USPSA Limited.   I've only just started experimenting with it since I don't have my Glock 35 yet, but I do have a G22 I can start developing the loads I want (I'll keep that in the bag for a backup gun anyway, so I want to make sure I just make major in that gun).

I have been loading .40 minor for awhile.  The 200's are nice and soft for that.

I use a Lee Deluxe die set for all the calibers I load, including .40.   I still use a shot of Dillon Case Lube as well... it really makes a difference.

I have used the Lee 4-die carbide set since I started shooting. Have loaded for G22, M&P40 Pro, XDM40 and STI Edge for USPSA Limited. Never had an issue in any of them.

IIRC, I used 4.5TG with 180gr plated bullets for Major in the XDM when I shot it for Limited. Now, I use WST at 5.0-5.1 and 180gr Xtremes.

My vote for the 40 dies goes to Hornady.  I just prefer their dies.  FWIW as far as powder, I recently started playing around with CFE Pistol and 700x for 40 cal.   I'm really liking the CFE behind my 180gr cast bullets and 200gr swaged jacketed bullets.  As always, YMMV.

I really like the Hornady dies I have in .40.  I run 180 grain plated RN and push them with Universal Clays.  Going to try some with Titegroup this summer/when I run out of Universal Clays.

Lots of good powders out there though, will be following.

I use the 4 die Lee set for 40. I have RCBS, Dillon, and Redding for other pistol calibers. I have had no issues with the Lee set for 40.

I load long for a STI so my data would not really be a match for you in 40 Major. I had to go over the published limit for TG under a 200 grain Extreme to consistently make Major. Using Bullseye or HP-38 I did not have to go over the published max for major (even loading long). Since your Glock will not allow any extra length, you should be able to make Major without going beyond the published max for TG. I suggest you work up slowly and be open to other powders for 40 major.

I'm using Power Pistol for 9mm and .40 S&W nowadays. If you don't load it too maximum you won't get the fireballs or concussion many complain about.

I'm loading Hornady XTP's and their fmj's mostly. No lead in these calibers.

The only dies I don't like are Lee's. I'm using Redding or RCBS, can't remember off the top of my head.

No problem using RCBS dies. Use tightgroup for my berry FMJ plinking bullets but use power pistol for my hornady xtp's. Power pistol may bark but puts one hell of a bite into whatever I hit.

Powder - Titegroup.  Buddy uses Powerpistol and likes it

I used to use jacketed XTPs have since swapped over to Bayou Bullets.  They make major and no leading in a Glock using the Lyman M die to expand and Flare.

I'm using Dillons Dies.

I use Lee carbide dies. No issues with "Glocked" brass loading for a G35. I use a Lee FCD with plated and jacketed bullets, and a Lee taper crimp die with coated bullets.

Blue Dot works well in .40, but you'll have some unburnt powder. Power pistol works well, too, but I don't care for how loud it is. It also sticks to my powder hopper. My favorite powder in .40 is Unique. Dirty but has a good "feel".

Me too^

Lee Carbides work great, knocks out the bulge, and are cheap to boot.

ETA:My last load work up was Power Pistol under 135 berrys, shoots great, really happy with it for a plinking/practice load

Been using RCBS sizing, seating and taper crimp dies and all chamber nicely in a Glock 23.

Just ran a bunch of 40 cases through the Lee bulge buster and it seems to be a good addition to the case processing to insure the cases are uniform. I'll also change to the Lee FCD, but haven't yet so... no comments on it.

I use Lyman dies with the "M" die expander. Extreme plated bullets work real well for me, the 165's gave good 50 yd results. For low power 700X for more Power Pistol & HS6.

I agree on the 200 grain bullets - especially in long-loaded 40 (OP:  are you shooting a 2011/STI?SV?).

As for dies, Lee is good; you can buy from EGW a modified Lee "U" or "undersize" or "small base die" (a term you rifle guys will know) - which is about a thou under normal die size.  Supposedly the EGW goes a little further down on the case over the regular Lee die.

Or buy it from Lee directly.  You will need to use a TELEPHONE to call Lee to order a U die.  Used to be about $14.  With either "U" die, you will need to follow the Dillon reloading video's advice and use a small amount of Hornady OneShot case spray (it is right there in the video - the one with Brian Enos as the narator).

The purpose of a "U" die is to virtually eliminate any chance of set-back.

Hornady Titanium Nitride 40 dies are also good.  They are the "New Dimension" line.  I lent my 40 Hornady dies to my buddy Phil Strader years ago & he seemed happy with them during the time he used them.

As for powder - you want something FAST.  An old USPSA standard in N-320.  I use SINGLE BASE powder - SOLO 1000.  It will get you there safely and is as clean as N320.

You could also use Titegroup or Universal (thoguh universal is medium speed and not recently available much).

I use dies in various caliber a by Lee, RCBS, Hornady, and Dillon. If you're shooting a lot of lead, the Dillon dies are easy to disassemble without loosing your settings. I like the Hornady seating die with the floating seater.

On my .40 toolhead I have RCBS dies with a Lee (standard) crimp die. I've used that setup to load many thousand rounds, both standard length and long, major and minor power factor.

When I shot USPSA, I shot a Glock 35. Here is what I used:

4 die set from Lee
3.6-3.8 gns Titegroup powder
180 gn lead projectiles
Federal Primers

Never had a problem and shot thousands of rounds with that setup.

I had to put a lighter spring in the gun to cycle such a soft round.  I think it was a 12 pound recoil spring from Wolff

I still made power factor for minor shooting 180 gns somewhere around 750 ft/s.

I haven't shot it in a while, so i don't remember the exact speed.  I know I was around 130ish for power factor.

Lee Dies, Power Pistol.

Some folks think PP is flashy, but I think it's pretty low flash compared to Blue Dot.
