| Hope someone can help on data. I'm going to load 223 with IMR 3031 and Berrys 55gr FMJ-BT but my nosler book is not helpful with this combo. After web search's I am getting a wide range of powder measurements, Hodgdon site has data for 55gr barnes TSX FB starting at 20gr and max of 21.3 while handloads.com says 24.0gr......with PMC brass, IMR 3031 and Federal #205 primers what should be my starting point for powder, |
|
I used PMC cases, Win SR primer, Hornady 55 gr SP, and started at 21.0 grs IMR-30-31 in 223. Worked up to 24.0 grs which totally filled the case, shot ok, but found that 23.4 grs that was most accurate in my AR. You will find you will tire of extruded powders (IMR-3031) and will switch to ball powders that measure exact. Tac, H-335, A-2230, ect. Good luck

Quoted: The new LT-32 by Ramshot meters exceptionally well also, and works fantastic in 223/5.56. V Quoted: Quoted: Tac, H-335, A-2230, ect. V In this thread we need to help him with IMR-3031, because it's what he has and what he asked about. Maybe the only powder he can get, we don't know yet.

It is not a good idea to use solid data for Cup-n-core jacketed bullets and verse-visa. Hodgdon has on-line data for your Jacketed bullet, it's their 55gr SPR SP, SPR stands for Speer. I used 23.5 grains of IMR-3031 under 60 grain Hornady hp flat base bullets. This is over Hornady's maximum, but I loaded the bullets @ 2.250" oal. Hornady data loads them at 2.200" oal.. My velocity was 2850 fps from a 20" AR and 2950 fps from a 26" bolt action with good accuracy from both. I don't crimp. I consider this a full power load in my rifles.
Start lower, work up looking for best accuracy, not highest velocity. |
