| I've been loading the Xtreme bullets with Varget with good results for plinking some small game hunting, but I recently picked up some of the CFE 223 and was wondering if anyone had some load data they've used with good results? |
| I'm still fairly new to the reloading game, I've been using a friend's press for a while and finally got my own setup. I can seem to find any published data for the xtremes really, I just went with what my buddy was using and we tweaked it from there. 24.5gr of varget seems to be a nice load for them IMO, just wanting to get some info on this powder, I know it's still fairly new. I;m using a Dillon RL550B and now that I have it here and more accessible to me, I am going to start playing with some different bullets. Any info is much appreciated.. |

I load the Xtremes identically to Hornady 55gr FMJBTs...their profile is very slightly different, but I don't even need to adjust my seating die to load to same OAL and seat to mid-cannelure.. |

Go to Hodgdon's page. Don't find your exact bullet? You seldom do, it's normal. Also what's normal is to use same weight bullet data and work up from the starting load. Start load is the lowest charge shown. That's what I did when I loaded CFE 223 and 69 gr SMK's. Three or so years ago. No secrets, just use the data and work up a load for your rifle. eta, welcome to Arfcom and the Reloading Forum. |

I've been so conflicted with CFE. I always use it for 55gr, but I keep hearing how much success people have with it using heavier bullets. I've got a bunch of 55gr bullets, Hornady Z-max and soft points, that I'd just like to load up and keep in ammo cans for later. Trying to decide if I should use the CFE for it or something else like 335, blc, or heck, I have so much other stuff from stockpiling.
Anyways, back to what really matters. There's TONS of load info on the net, but you really need to work up your own load. CFE is amazing stuff! |

| Thanks for all of the input guys, I'll be trying some heavier bullets as well after I get things a little more dialed in and see what it likes. I'm shooting a Ruger SR556. I'll get these things loaded up and see if I can get them through the chrono to see where I'm at. On another note, I have used a friend's chrono at the range but looking to buy my own. Any input on a relatively inexpensive model? |
