I have been looking around the net trying to get a idea on a heavier 223 load for my 14.5". It is a arfcom 14.5 1:7 barrel. Of course I see everything from 55gr to 77 gr.  My local shooting club did a black rile shoot at 200 and 300 yards. I have been shooting with what ever I can find at LGS and nothing seems to be real consistent. I know my rifle might not be MOA but I'm not either right now. I would like to choose a bullet that could be more consistant then what I have now. I know every gun is different but I need some help finding a place to start.

My LGS has a good supply of H335 and I am planning on picking up a lb to try out... I am not looking for loads load data but more on what bullets people have had good luck with out of a 14.5" barrel.

Try the 69 gr. Nosler or Sierra's, or the 68 gr. Hornady's. All 3 have shot  well out of my various carbines.

Your rifle will like one of those for sure. Also consider any of the 52/53 grain match bullets from the various makers. Some rifles prefer particular bullets over another brand. You have to try them to find out what your rifle likes. All of the standard "match" bullets are GTG.

I was looking at the Nosler 69gr. Accubond. I have always had really good luck with Nosler and my 243 hunting rifle.  Everything I read about Sierra is excellent but they can be spendy and I am pretty budgeted right now.  Hornady is local to me and is a neat old plant. I will have to look and see what the availability of the 68gr. I know Hornady can be hard to get sometimes.

I will also look into the lighter stuff. I know some of the guys in my HTF shoot light bullets I might see if one of them have a partial box they would be willing to let go.

I would expect an accubond bullet to be priced higher than a Sierra offering. Might want to verify your pricing math on that. I too use the AB in a few of my hunting rounds (different calibers).

The Nosler 69 grain HPBT costs less than the Sierra 69 gr MK, and shoots as well.

For 300 yards, one of those is what I recommend.

Big fan of the 75gr Hornady BTHP myself.

I am having a hard time telling if you have been shooting reloads or factory ammo....

I have had good luck with every Nosler ballistic tip , in a varity of calibers. They seem to be very tolerate of a variety powders and primers.

My 1n7 CHF 20" barrel loves Hornady 75gr ... hated the BH red box 77gr Sierra, miserable groups. Your barrel could be completely different....

I am surprised you haven't found a bullet your rifle likes.... could we get some more info on your loads ( or ammo ) and your rifle. ?

And remember a clean barrel, does make a huge accuracy difference...not to mention it gives you time to notice any problems with your gas system and flash hider ,etc....

If you have been just trying 55gr FMJ factory ammo, then no surprise on your accuracy woes... I haven't fired a tight grouping ( 1moa ) FMJ 55gr from any of my rifles with any of the commonly available brands.

( I wish Nosler made a 69gr Accubond )

With everything that I have been reading I got my Nosler bullets mixed up...

My barrel only has about 150 rounds through it so I have been keeping it as cleaned as I can. I know this is having a affect on the accuracy and with more break in the accurance will improve. I am really just looking for some place to start with my reloading. I know the gun and I can both do better I am not looking for this rifle to be a sub moa gun but I would like to get it 1-2 with better ammo and 2-3 once I figure out some cheap plinking loads.

I have not shot any reloads out of this gun. I just recently got the press set up and I have been burning though what ammo I have for brass for reloadings. I have also been trying to figure out what bullet and powder I want to start out with.

I have shot the following all 55 gr

independence
PMC
Lake City
Federal 223 Black box.
20 rouds of Wolf Gold free from a friend just to try

My best groups have been from the LC and Federal. Neither have been anything worth posting on here about.

I do admit I need more trigger time with this rifle but I also want to start working on loads that can preform better then cheap commercial loads.

The barrel is what it is at this point.

Clean it, but don't over clean.  Use a bore guide.  Every 300 rounds or so use a copper solvent.

Agreed.

Any of these three bullets and around 24.5 grains of Reloader-15, H4895, or Varget.  Best accuracy will most likely be somewhat below a max load.
