So I was trimming a couple hundred cases with a WFT that I recently purchased.  Everything is going fine and it takes about 1-2 seconds per case.  I only have a cheap little digital micrometer that i used to set the wft to 1.755.  Then I came across a case that seemed to trim and trim and trim before bottoming out.  I measured this case and it's total length after trim is 1.604 and measures 1.269 to the shoulder.  This brass is once fired from me sometime in the last year.

It was in a batch that I FL sized about 3 months ago.  I would've thought that i would have noticed it when sizing.  I'm not sure how this would've fired without an issue?  It's RP headstamped brass.

Sorry for the shotty phone pic but you can still see the difference compared to a normal case

They're not the same cartridge.  If the headstamp is the same then one may be someones wildcat.  Do NOT attempt to use the off one.  You may have accidently picked up one of a nearby shooters brass.

Looks like the tall one might be a .220 Swift, maybe?

Thanks for the replies guys, talk about fast!!!

i have never picked up any range brass, usually out shooting in the pasture.  But I do need to get my eyes check.  .223-.001=.222 rem.  I think my buddy brought his bolt gun and shot it 3 times.  Looks like i got one of them mixed up with my brass.  It's already in the trash, so no chance of it making into any of my guns.

Thanks for the replies reminding me to pull my head out of my ass!!!

About the only thing I can tell from the pic is those are 2 different cartridges.

What does the headstamp say?

Yep that was it.  simply overlooked it.  Like I said my buddy might have shot his .222rem a total of three times when he was out with me and this one apparently got mixed up in it.

ETA:  the .223-.001 line was my lame attempt at mocking myself for letting something like this happen to me
