Curious how many sit or stand while reloading.  I see so many pics of benches with chairs, I'm thinking
I'm not in the norm...my bench is set up for standing.

I currently stand using my Lee Classic Cast Turret...however

My bench is just a tad low and my back starts to get quite sore after an hour or reloading more because you have to throw the arm down so low to cycle.  I purchased a wooden stool and it's just a tad too tall, need to chop the legs off and see if I can work with that.  However it just feels weird sitting down.

sit. i have a ridiculous executive chair (a bit gaudy in today's terms) but comfortable as all get-out that I sit at my mahogany reloading desk (not kidding, wife got her old boss's desk/credenza for free when he decided to upgrade)...

hey, worked out for me. this thing is built like a brick $hithouse.

When my press was on my taller work bench I stood because I didn't have a tall bar stool.

I have moved my press to a portable craftsman workbench so that I can take it to the Club for reloading meetings.  Now it is at a good height to sit in a chair and work all day.  The only exception is when I am using the Super Swage.  Have to stand to get the extra leverage.

Since I took this picture, the super swage has been mounted behind the press, betwen the scale and the trimmer.  It might be hard to see, but the table on the right is the old bench (too high) at 36".  The new workstation is 32".    (also, the room has been rearranged and straightened up...looks totally different now but you get the idea)

I seat on a bench for a while then stand for a time. If I mix it up long reloading sessions go better for my legs.

I am on my feet all day at work, I have to sit when I can. I too have an office chair.

Both.  Depending on what I am doing.  My bench is waist high and I use a bar stool for when I want to sit.

Stand.

Press is on a high work bench in the basement gym.

I used to stand when I reloaded in my garage. I since have moved to my basement and have a converted desk, so I sit now.

I sit, got an office chair and took off the right arm to clear the press handle.

I'm somewhere in between. I have a backless stool and sit on the edge while I reload. More like a lean really.

Progressive - stand up.

Single stage - sit on a bar stool

For me it was an age thing.

First 20 years I stood to reload, now I sit.

The young guys always seem to stand, as it's easier to get to things that you need.

I sit when I'm working on the Rock Chucker...it is mounted on a low bench.  I stand at the 650, which is mounted on an old steel gov't type desk.  With the strong mount it is the perfect height for an hour long standing session, which is just enough time to crank out several boxes of ammo. My next hour is spend wiping off and case guaging the completed rounds at the kitchen table then repeat the cycle.

Both. My bench is tall enough to stand and work at comfortably and I usually stand when doing most things. When I start cranking out a lot of rounds, I'll sit. The press is at about the right height to comfortably use when sitting.

Not done with this

Both, depends on what I'm doing.  Now that I have a nice char I sit more.

Case prep I stand; Trimming, swaging.
If I'm reloading all day, siting gets old.
Normally when casting I sit down.

My bench is set up to stand, although I am going to get an adjustable drafting chair to sit for case prep.

I sit all day and try to stand when possible.
Actually sitting just doesn't work for me when reloading. Too far away for me to glance in the case to ensure power is present and no double charge.
1/31/2014 4:58:22 PM EDT
[#37]
Sitting fits my reloading best --- single stage, weigh each charge to 0.02 grains (0.001 gram), manual case prep, seat bullets in a small arbor press with chamber dies, hand prime with a Sinclair priming tool

I stand.  For some reason sitting is not comfortable when loading, it is also harder to see into the cases to confirm powder drop.

Ditto... but I find sometimes rifle sizing requires a good stand to get the leverage right. I am not a big guy.

I sit for certain tasks but usually when loading i will stand just so I don't get to relaxed. The chair that i have is great height for working on the bench but pulling the handle gets old sitting after awhiel

bar stool for me.
2/5/2014 7:05:27 PM EDT
[#46]

I stand until my back hurts, then sit on either a bar stool with out a back rest or folding chair.  After awhile I stand again.  My back is F'ed up from work injuries.

I'd like to get a stool with a back rest to lean on.  I'll try that for awhile.  Maybe I'll look for that stool tomorrow.

Mostly sitting, I built my bench to be the ideal height to work at whilst standing, and then shortened a bar stool to be the right height when sitting.

It would appear sitting is the preferred method.  I've never even considered it.

Stand.

My workbench is my reloading bench I built it so I wouldn't stoop over whatever I was working on.
