I would like to shoot 175 grain bullets (SMK, Nosler, or Berger OTM's) in a RRA LAR-8 Varmit w/ 26 inch 1:10 twist barrel.  I would like the hive's opinion on the optimum powder, available or not, for this rifle.  My thought was 4064, but I'd like to have the opinions of those who load for this type of gas gun before I buy.  Thanks.

With my 24 rainier ultra match VV N550 gave me the best results.

I've liked Varget with 168 and 178 Amax bullets in my 20" AR10, 1x11.25 twist.  The 168s have been a little better.

Just started using 4064 with 168 SMKs (the Fed GMM load) and that's awfully good too.

I use IMR 8208XBR on my 24" DPMS and it will shoot sub MOA all day. Clean burning.

IMR 4064, Varget, and IMR 8208 are all good choices. Your gun and loading methods will pick the winner. A friend that reloaded pistol about 20 years ago recently got back into reloading and, on his second try, produced a 1/2 inch group from a DPMS LR-308 at 100 yards with 175 gr SMKs and Varget ....

I've had decent results with vihta vouri N-140 (better than N-540) and 155, 168, 175 grain bullets… but I've had better results with an AR-10T shooting lighter bullets -- 125 grain Bergers with a slightly faster burning powder such as IMR-4895. This is an approach you may wish to store in your memory for when you get tired of the 175 grainers.

ETA: Start with IMR 4064, since that is just about the only thing available, at the moment!

I haven't used it for 175 gr, but have had very good luck with H4895 with both 155 and 168 gr loads in an AR10...

IMR-4895
H-4895
IMR-3031
IMR-4064
Varget
RE-15
N-140
N-150

or if you prefer ball powders:

WW-748
AA-2460
AA-2520
H-335

.308 works well with all of these powders, it's an easy cartridge to find good loads for. I use Varget, RE-15, N-140, IMR-4895 or H-4895 because I prefer extruded powders. IMR-4064 is one of the best powders but it requires hand weighing each charge because it meters so poorly. That alone is enough to dissuade it's use for anything other than long range competition, which requires hand weighing each charge anyway.

Varget, 4064, and Win748 have worked well for me.
