Hey Guys- I am running through my first batch of .223 reloads. I found several (30) cases that dont fit in my Dillon Case Gauge because of small dings / burs on the case rim. My gut says they will be fine and I dont want to remove any material from the rim, but I thought I would ask your opinion. All of the other brass (1000)  passes case gauge test after sizing. About 30% need trimming.

Guess they fit the shellholder? If you're sure its just the rim then run them.

I'll probably get flamed for this but I really think case gauges just over complicate the process, haven't used one in the decade I've been loading, learned to load from a man that hasn't used them in over three decades, no Kabooms, rare feed issues almost never attributable to case sizing, several dozen chamberings including a couple wildcats loaded between the two of us.

For cases that have nicks or even slightly bent rims and otherwise are perfectly good I use a small smooth file to remove nicks and burrs or even to file the case head smooth and flat. Why not fix the rim and salvage a perfectly good case?

If pressure is to high from a  maximum loading, the brass may stick in the chamber. The extractor then will rip the rim on extraction.   Its normal to have a few rims that dont fit a gage, but chamber with no problems.  File them if you wish.
