I bought some shellplates  for the LM I recently acquired to handle several other calibers I load.
I noticed quickly that the new ones have a different post pattern on the bottom(more like milled notches and flat spots). My old shellplate just has 5 posts under the bottom.
Are the new shell plates some type of improvement over the old style that is supposed to be better? How so?

After getting the index system working right, it is a pretty good machine. I don't use the priming system, so the indexing is the Achilles heel of the whole press.

the new style, just milled notches, I think is just a cheaper way to manufacture and "just as good as" the old post style. However, the older plates were smoother, while the newer plates are still a little rough in the bottom.

you should get the updated primer feeder and give it a shot. mine works great for 223. I think that the only caliber people still have problems with is 9mm when trying to use the 9mm/40 shell plate. that combo shell plate doesnt center the 9mm case over the primer pin.
