I'm planning on loading 5.7 ammo, BUT, one thing is damn confusing.

Everyone says you CANNOT remove the lacquer coating on the brass because it will result in malfunctions. This runs contrary to excepted reloading practices.

Shiny clean slick brass won't work?

What I've decided to try is to take 50 rounds of FN SS197 factory and polish all of the lacquer coating off with Brasso. Then see if it will "run" in my PS90.

Thoughts?

Don't use Brasso.

It is ammonia based and will make the brass brittle.

As far as the coating, I've only read you need it to ensure the brass doesn't stick. I don't have any first hand experience, sorry.

You will have more FTF or FTE without the lacquer. 5.7 guns need the coating for proper feeding and extraction.

Just wash it with dilute Simple Green like everyone on the FN forums say to do. Why re-invent the wheel?

Or only do a few to test so you don't ruin all of them.

It's been tried before by others...

The cases can also be wet tumbled for a short period to clean them.

1.5 hrs worked best on my friends cases.

Don't remove the coating.

5.7 IS NOT lacquer coated. It is polymer coating. It is applied to assist in the feeding through the magazine of the PS90 to prevent galling.

It has been 6 plus years now but I reloaded some 5.7 for my son's P90 (since sold). Found out after the fact that you were not supposed to tumble it.  Had an occasional failure to extract.  When I reloaded brass that had not been tumbled, it ran without any issues.

My recommendation is to clean it with simple green.  But you could tumble a small number of cases to see how it works in your gun.
