I just sorted all of my brass and have 100 FC .223 headstamped brass. I have heard that the FC brass is not great for reloading. This brass has the primer crimp and was bought in the 100 pack black box AE .223 from a 2013 run.

From reading, years ago people swore off FC brass. Has this changed? I do not want to invest the time and have to sort it all again later if it will give me issues.

After prepping 1300 cases on a single stage not doing this last 100 is will not bother me in the least. If it is the same as new LC brass I will make use of it though.

Some will say use it, some will say scrap it.

Personally, I like FC brass. Hardly ever needs trimmed.

I've never had a problem with Federal brass, even the older stuff.

If it was me, I would load it up and then scrap it after 4-5 reloads.

This is obviously from a trusted source

I have shot and reloaded almost 1k of these with no problem.

Swage / ream the primer pockets, re-size, trim to equal lengths and you're good to go.

the old FC brass was a joke the newer stuff especially if once fired still with the crimp is probably OK.

I have at least 4 reloads on several 100 round sets of FC with no issues so far. I just thoroughly inspect these and all other cases prior to reloading.

I got 14 reloads out of a batch of 50 pieces of FC brass using 27.5 grains of W 748 and 50 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips. I annealed every third loading. I retired the batch after I accumulated 10 with cracked necks, and by retired I mean that I load them for plinking. I have no problem with FC brass, I have had some of my most accurate loads using FC. With the above load, my wife shot a 5 shot group at 300 yards that measured 1.1". Kind people used to leave me piles of spent FC brass in the mountains, but not so much anymore.

My experience with FC brass from '12 100 rd AE223 was not good.

Loose primer pockets blew primers 30-40% of the time on first

reload of 25grs H335, CCI #41 primer, and Winchester 55gr fmj.

Cutting the load to 24grs stopped popped primers, but I did not

like reducing power due to poor brass. Reloaded once and

scrapped. Some people have no problems, they need to list

their load data so we can see what power level they are using.

Now, all my FC .223 goes to trades.
