Ok here we go agin another thread on a topic that has been beat to death |
|
I have loaded a bunch of them with 3.1g of titegroup. They shoot really well and are awesome with a suppressor.
I doubt you will ever be able to get the bolt to cycle and still be subsonic. The 223 case it just not conducive to cycle with subsonic rounds. i imagine one could highly modify the gas system to run subs but the gun would be would be useless for anything else because it would be way over gassed with regular power loads. just my .02

Ok here we go agin another thread on a topic that has been beat to death What about something like a JP low mass bolt carrier and a different buffer spring? |
| what if you get rid of the buffer or change the buffer spring. The 380 uses 3.2g of tite group to push a 90g bullet so if a handgun using a 15-19Lb spring plus slide weight. maybe I could grab a cheap spring off flea bay find out has to cut then stretch the spring out ? |

Even if that would work The problem then will be the lighter spring not having enough strength to strip the next round out of the magazine. not so sure it would work anyways, a gas operated vs a blow back are to different creatures. |

yeah. I have worked on that several years back. i was actually getting cycling and bolt lock using , blue dot powder I think.
but it only worked with less then 10 rounds and then I could never get it to work again, so i gave up. never could figure why it worked the with those few rounds, but could never repeat it. |

You need to take a serious look at the difference between a 55gr 5.56 and a 40gr 22LR at subsonic speeds. Compare energy levels at the ranges you plant to shoot.
The difference is minute, minor, meaningless. One is reliably cycling (22LR) and one is just not capable of being such. Switch to a 9mm upper, grab a box of 147gr Win White Box and start shooting. Send me a check for all the time, money and effort you just avoided wasting on that subsonic dream for 5.56. TRG |

An AR requires gas volume and pressure, so even if you come up with enough pressure, the volume won't be sufficient.
I think a subsonic load is okay for the one rifle guy that wants to plug a rabbit or squirrel. I wouldn't get too tied up in getting the load to cycle. |

Any idea on 223. And on your 9mm you using Uzi mags or glock Quoted:

TRG 5.56 is awesome on hogs, but, it fragments and 'grenades' through the meat. 9mm, TCMC stays together, breaks bones, penetrates and I don't eat lead. I use a converted UZI mag. TRG |

WOW....amazing this thread pops up today. I have a friggen armadillo that i FINALLY saw last night in my yard, unfortunately by the time I got into my house and grabbed my .22 AR with collabri rounds it was gone. It did get me
thinking though. Since the .22 with Collabri rounds is quiet as or even quieter than my 1k fps pellet rifle. I was wondering if I could acheive the same with my .223 throwing a heavier round (55g or 62g) round into the little armadillo POS without waking the neighbors. I have accurate #7 powder (i know pistols) and also 2150 i think it is (for my rifle). From a 16 inch barrel would i drop pistol or rifle powder or does it matter seeing i'd be looking to go subsonic? will it be quiet even without a suppressor? I figured the bolt wont cycle just like the .22 with the collabri doesnt. I just want to ensure i keep noise down, have better accuracy than a friggen pellet, can hit from farther than 25 yards away (pellets suck at over 25 yards it seems), and would be quiet as the collabri. My first thought was to work down from my 25g load until i started getting under 1k fps, but seems some works been done in this areana. Waste of time? pointers? info? - thanks btw....i could do the same with 9mm or 10mm pistol if needed. Anything to kill that damn armadillo and not have the cops come out :-) |
