147 - 155 grain FMJ or HPBT bullets

IMR 3031 - 48.0 grains
IMR 4895 - 49.0 grains
IMR 4064 - 50.0 grains
W748 - 48.0 grains
AA2460 - 49.0 grains
AA2520 - 51.0 grains
AA2495 - 50.5 grains
H4895 - 49.0 grains
BLC-2 - 49.0 grains
H335 - 49.0 grains
RL-12 - 48.0 grains


Some "mil spec" loading data, borrowed from KB7DX linked in another post on Garand reloading.  Should be close for your bullet wt.  Work up loads to be safe of course. In practice I have found some of these getting a little hot in my M1 and 1903.    Check also Hodgdon's on line data, it shows 49 gr BLC-2  to be on low end for that wt of bullet.

Be careful - the AP bullet has a vey long bearing surface for its weight, especially compared to the 147 grain 7.62 bullet.  The pressures associated with a given charge will be higher with the 3006 AP bullet compared to the 7.62 bullet.

Are you talking 7.62 or .30-06?  And can you post a pic of the bullet in question?

Data I posted was for M1 Garand.  However now that I recall, AP bullet for that was 163 gr.

Cannot post picture right now.

I weighted a good sample of what I got and they all go between 150-152 gr.  I tracked down the source that I got these from and they are not 30-06 M2 (163 gr) resized pulls as I was led to believe.

They are resized pulls from "Cartridge, Caliber 7.62mm, NATO, Armor Piercing, M61"

Now the question is can I use them in 30-06 and if so what load using BLC 2.

7.62 M61 AP used an elongated 150 gr (nominal) wt bullet with steel core.  Mil Spec load per the Army small arms ammunition tech manual was as follows (copied from Master Po):

Cartridge, 7.62mm, Armor Piercing, M61
Weight - 393 grains
Length - 2.8 in.
Primer - Percussion (Crimped into case)
Propellant - IMR 4475
Charge - 41 grains
Projectile - 150.5 grain flat based steel cored bullet w/ cannelure
Chamber Pressure - 50,000 psi
Velocity - 2750 fps, 78 feet from muzzle

IMR 4475 was a powder based upon IMR 3031 with kernals cut for better metering (cut down powder).  
For that bullet in.30-06, my guess is that you could start at low end of BLC-2 for a 150, 155, gr bullet in .30-06.   I dont think the pressure would be that much higher than a FMJBT bullet.  What Rifle are you loading for?    That matters somewhat.

they will work in 30-06. If loaded to the cannelure it will end up shorter than most military 30-06 ammunition. This usually isn't a problem. AP has two cannelures. One is structural and the other is for crimping. BLC2 will work. Use a magnum primer with BLC2 in 30-06 to avoid hangfires. the Garand load data may be mild enough, even though the aP bullets are longer than lead core bullets.
