I have been loading on a new Dillon 650/550 using Winchester 296 ball  powder. Everything is adjusted fine but it leaks a little powder each time and after a while it there is a good bit on the shell plate. I did notice one time as I was lowering the ram that the case was out of the powder die and I saw a little powder drop out. Is this normal or an adjustment problem.

Try pausing at the bottom of the down stroke so powder can flow into case.

If you go fast not all of the powder is in the case and when you lift the handle up.....it spills.

This is with all ball powders.

Agreed. Mine doesn't leak with W231, W296/H110, H335 or BLC2... but if I try and go too fast on my 550 all the powder doesn't make it in the case before I drop the shellplate.

look in the powder funnel and make sure it is not sticking in there somewhere. maybe some stuck powder is holding it up, it has happened to me

Is the machine indexing smoothly?  If my machine bumps or sticks it'll shake a little powder out of a case....  or can you actually see the leakage happening?

OK  There is a problem. I moved the powder die and measure from my 650 to my 550. Same problem. After charging a case the powder funnel is not moving freely as it does on my other machine. Every other time the powder funnel is jammed in the powder die and powder spills out after lowering the case.

They don't do it anymore, but Dillon used to warn that 296 could be problematic in their powder measure, it could leak.  I've never used it so have no personal experience.

I have used W-296 and H-110 successfully in my Dillon measures with no leaking when loading 357.

We'll soon know. I talked with Dennis at Dillon toady and after trying several things he is sending me an RMA for the Powder Measure, Powder Die and Powder Funnel. He thinks one of them may be out of alignment.
Dillon really stands behind their products.
