I am setting up my 9mm dies, and am unsure of my measurements. I am using Rainier Ballistics 115grn bullets. These are electroplated fully, but according to the Rainier site, I am supposed to treat them as lead bullets as far as reloading data. I seated one, and with only a tiny adjustment to my die, I was spot on. Firstly, I refuse to believe I am that amazing and something must be wrong, and secondly, visually inspecting, it seemed seated too deep, so I went and got a factory load 9mm Winchester 115grn FMJ, and the Rainier has a noticeably shorter OAL, 1.108" compared to 1.164" on the factory, a difference of .056". As per the Winchester powder site, for a 115 grn lead round nose, I should be at 1.100" using Autocomp powder. Also, my bullet diameter should be .356", but I am only getting .353" on both the factory and the reload bullet.

I am using a Hornady LnL press, and I also have the Hornady 9th Edition manual, their data which is for their own 9mm 115grn FMJ is also saying OAL of 1.100", yet the Winchester site is saying I should have an OAL of 1.169" for a 115grn FMJ. Also, the case lengths on the 2 brass are exactly the same.

So with my reloaded bullet being only .008" longer then suggested for the Winchester powder site for a lead round nose, yet .056" shorter then the factory FMJ, am I going to be ok, or am I seated way too deep and bound to have some pressure problems?

Thank you

The bullets may not be the same length, even though they are the same weight, I would not worry about it, plated bullets are softer than jacketed ball.

1.169" is SAAMI max overall length, which happens to be too long for some magazines.

Just load as long as will fit in your shortest mag.

.353" on both bullets? Bad measuring instrument. Using calipers instead of a micrometer?

Yes, using a brand new Hornady digital caliper. I assume the bullets would be ok as I have fired plenty of WWB before, but with my other numbers not matching up, I want to be sure. I'm still in the setup with no powder stage of reloading.

You will be fine, the data you are using is for the specific powder and projectile. Basing your OAL measurements against a factory WWB round is not comparing the same thing, being the powder which makes the difference in the various charge weights you see.

I load several bullet weights in 9mm. I use 1.10 for almost all of them including whatever 115 gr RN (jacketed, plated or cast).

You are fine with 1.10.

You might be measuring your bullet diameter incorrectly, should be .355, .356.

Be sure to zero your caliper and don't use excessive pressure to close the caliper when you measure.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.
