I have some old IMR 4895 powder in the Metal can
Is it ok to mix it with new 4895? |
|
Never mix powders. Each lot number is made using a slightly different blend of stuff to get the desired burn rate. They have the ability to do this at the factory, but not the end user.
Use the container until it is all gone, then switch to the newer container. When switching lots, it is a good idea to check your loads to ensure nothing has drastically changed. |
| I do it all the time as long as the powder is the same. All you are really doing is making your own lot. I couldn't find a keg of 4064 to save my life but I could find 1 lb cans. I mixed everyone, about six different lots to create my own "1" lot. I just used a chrony to work up my load like always. No problems at and it wasn't the first time I done it and won't be my last... |
