| curious why each camp prefers one over the other? and of each...which brand stands out as the highest quality for the lowest price? Calipers of course. |
| Digital. Fast and accurate enough, ease of use. Of course you will with a little regular use be pretty much as quick and possibly more accurate with a dial, and you will not be running out to get a battery for it, ever. I call it a wash, but I prefer digital. Cheap, low quality tools are cheap and low quality in either configuration. |

Mine has neither. My old man was a machinist. IDK if you could read it though. ![]() LOL I bet I can. Ive used and still use both(electronic and dial) in my profession (machinist), no I don't use vernier calipers but I do know how. You really can't beat the reliability of a manual tool. I have seen the electronic calipers do all sorts of things like not track correctly and if you are not experienced at what you are measuring you would not even know. In a machine shop there are plenty of things around to check your calipers to so the electronic tools can easily be monitored for accuracy. I say dial just for the simplicity and reliability. |

Dial
Much easier to see now much that 1/4" turn of the die moved your bullet when setting seating depth. You know where you want to go and when the needle moves you can see at a glance you're getting close or not quite there yet. I'm one that embraces new technology, but I prefer dial over digital calipers. |
| I use both. My old dials get used for case length at the trimmer or other fine measurement jobs. I like the digital when I am using the head space gauges or compensator as its just easier to push a zero button then turn the dial to zero it. A dial will never let you down and never need a battery. If you get into reloading you will probably end up with more then one, I actually have 2 digital and one good dial which makes it nice as I leave one digital set up with a comparator on it, another digital with the head space gauge on it and the old dial for any other measurements I need to take along the way. |
