I was going to load some .45acp tonight. I got about 3 rounds into loading and the press locked up. When I took it apart I found that it had dropped several primers into the mechanism. I cleaned and looked at everything I could and it still did it. I could duplicate the problem with the primer off the press using my finger to move the slide. The only thing I did see was the gap on the tip of the primer drop tube. I found a new tip in my spare parts bin and the tip on the tube had a wider gap in front than the new one. I changed the tip and loaded a few rounds with no problem so far. Does that tip wear and need changing after several thousand rounds? If so I probably solved the problem. If that won't cause extra primers to drop then I still have a problem. |
| I had same issue as well, sometimes its just not seated right at end of tube. I had to clean/reinstall tube a few times when i started reloading due to just recieving press. It was seating in box for a few years prior. Now she runs smooth! Just dont use oil and make sure completely dry. |

I had loaded thousands of rounds on it with no problem. I had the same problem on another older SDB but that press had something break in the bottom of the primer and I replaced the whole priming assembly. I removed and installed the assembly several times before I noticed and compared the gap on the tip. I am hoping it is just normal wear. I sent Dillon an email, but I posted here thinking I might get a quicker response. I did finish loading about 100 rounds after I changed the tip and had no problems so that may have fixed it. |

Ya, I've mangled a few red primer mag tips in my time. That's with being careful to line up the indexing tab in the end. Pays to have a spare to save the reloading session. The old tip hadn't been out of the primer tube. It didn't look damaged, but the vertical gap was larger than on the new one- 1/8" vs 1/16" approximately. When I removed it I didn't see ant damage. Today I loaded another 100 rounds with no problem, so I am thinking that was the problem. I really wish I knew for sure that that was the problem and changing it didn't mask the real problem. |
