| I picked up some military brass and need to remove the crimp. Are there any reasonable swaging tools out there and could I get some reccomendations. Just started reloading a couple months ago and don't have all the tools yet. Are there any that use a single stage press? Help would be appreciated. Thanks |

Swage die
Hand tool - small Hand tool - large Bench mounted tool Prep center |
| I would buy the bench mounted tool. I have no experience with RCBS's new model but it looks great and is cheaper than Dillon's which I have owned for 20+ years. I have nothing but praise for the bench mounted unit after sufferring with RCBS's die style for several years. |

Best swaging tool ever (IMHO): http://www.dillonprecision.com/content/p/9/pid/25263/catid/8/Super_Swage_600 |

Have had the Dillon, RCBS die unit and the Hornady reamers mounted to a motor , still have the Hornady
As to best this is what works best for me |

Here is the best swaging tool. Actually it's simple chamfering tool chucked in a cordless drill. Most every reloading kits come with one. Works faster than any fancy swaging tool. Try it and see. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/742818/hornady-chamfer-and-deburring-tool-17-to-45-caliber?cm_vc=subv1143728 |

The RCBS bench mounted tool is essentially the same mechanism as the Super Swage, but with the camming lever on a different axis. The concept and function are the same, and the cost is substantially lower. And the RCBS tool doesn't require that you mount it at the edge of the bench; the Super Swage needs to have plenty of room for that lever to swing WAY over, well past bench level. |

Use it as intended for deburing. Cases on the left had the primer crimp improperly removed with debur tool/drill bit/countersink. See how they were over reamed? Cases on the right were reamed with a Hornady crimp reamer that has a positive stop. |

Keep an open mind. The idea is so simple. Very little pressure is needed to remove crimp and very consistant if you do your part. Try it .... It is actually a poor idea. I have done this before, and yes it kind of works, but will never be consistent. The right tool for the job is inexpensive and works as it should. Reloading is not something you should screw around with the wrong tools. |

We try to teach proper reloading techniques to the new guys, not pass off...well what your doing. Lack of a positive stop to keep from over reaming is self evident. Or maybe not. |
