Just getting started and I want to put through a big order to save some $$$$

I know that UPS charges a haz fee of $27.50, but how is this assessed?  Is it per box of primers or container of gunpowder or for the entire order?

Can primers and gunpowder be shipped together?

What should I buy online vs Cabela’s (local to me) for example?

I searched through all the threads up top, but couldn’t locate any specifics on this.

What should I buy online vs Cabela’s (local to me) for example? Everything.  It will be cheaper.  As long as you buy in bulk.

Make sure the place you order from has the powder ON HAND.  Some places DROP SHIP powder from a different location.  If you order primers, which the vendor has, and powder that comes from a second location, you will be paying TWO haz-mat charges.

Don't think anyone but Midway does the separate ship thing but could be wrong,

If ordering powder only buy from Powder Valley Inc.  If buying powder and primers Graf's is cheaper.  50lbs per box for $27.50 is the hazmat fee.  Sometimes there are free hazmat specials at Graf's and at PVI.

Unless your only LGS is cabelas you may want to see what they say.

I've found Cabela's to have OK prices on primers and powder.

The 5 gun shops within a half hour drive of my house all sell primers for $35-$45 per box. Cabela's routinely has (or they did the last time I was in there) CCI primers for $30.

I only visit the locals when I want to try a pound of this or that, not for anything in bulk.
