I am curious to hear what would be a good tool to get for hard to clean crud in my primer pockets? I have a Lee hand cleaning tool, but doesn't see to work all that good and is so small it hurts my fingers trying to hold it.
Any of them out there chuck into a drill? |

Best tool I've used is my EJS Possum Hollow primer pocket uniformer. Carbide cutters that are adjustable and one turn cleans out the crud plus it will uniform depths and the cutters are adjustable. Midway show they are out of stock at present.http://www.midwayusa.com/product/445053/possum-hollow-primer-pocket-uniformer-tool
I've used the RCBS brushes but they always seem to fray with bent wire bristles for me. A primer pocket uniformer works better than brushes or scraper type pocket tools. Nice thing about the EJS tool is it will do both large and small primer pockets and is adjustable for large pistol and large rifle where depths are different. The small cutter is correct for both small pistol and small rifle which are the same depths. Only thing about it is the 1/2" hex stock tool body won't fit some drills. |

I've always used RCBS brushes in a drill. I also used a carbide uniformer (Whitetail) that I bought for some incredibly tough deposits in LC NM cases.
Now I use stainless pins in a rotary tumbler. I'm at a point where I have to find ways to reduce the pressure on my fingers. If I pinch several hundred cases, the nerves in my left index finger get damaged and require months for feeling to return. It also makes the muscles and joints in my thumb and finger sore for a week or so. The primary reason I always deprimed before tumbling in walnut is to slow the build up of carbon in the primer pockets. Most applications don't require perfectly clean primer pockets and some carbon build up is acceptable until it interferes with seating the primers slightly subflush. |
| I was wanting to clean the pockets well before using my K&M primer pocket uniforming tool that I chuck into my drill. Just got it and seems the build up in primer pocket is causing the uniformer not to cut properly. It takes about 6-10 times of using the tool then tapping out crud then repeating to get the pockets clean and uniform. May start another thread on that topic |
