Quoted: Your not pushing handle far enough forward OR sublate isn't resting on ram as it should be. I would check both Allen screws each side of ram making sure both are securing subplate to ram. EVEN with my subplate shimmed 0.010, no seating issues. Oops. Yeah, 1911smith is right. I misread your question- the dime thing is for people who are experiencing cratering issues on that spot after seating a few hundred primers. incorrect seating depth can be adjusted for by loosening the nut on the underside of the shellplate and/or pressing the handle more fully forwards.

Bluegrass,
I'm tracking with what you're getting at. I had the same issue. After the first couple hundred primers there was a dimple in the metal under the primer plunger rod, causing the rod to not protrude as high through the primer shuttle. All of my primers were seating flush. If I wanted them to be below flush I had to run each one through my hand primer afterward. I tried the dime/nickel/ penny fix but those just dented after a while too. I finally got a grade 8 washer and glued that in place. Hasn't dented yet! Hopefully the sheet metal you used is hard enough that it won't dent. I can't believe that this is even an issue with these presses. |
| Thanks dudes. I have been getting good results with the metal but it may not be a press issue - in fact, mine does not have a divot or dent in the casting from the initial runs without the metal layer. I probably just wasn't pushing quite hard enough on the upstroke so I will run my next batch without the metal layer and update the thread if necessary... |
