Well, after a few months of gathering tools, equipment, parts, and supplies (I did all of it as I got the extra money)  My first rounds are finished!

I loaded up 70rnds of 30-06 ready for the range in my 1903 Springfield  I used IMR 4895, to keep as close to mil-load as I can (may load for M1 soon)  I started low at 44gr. and went up in .5 increments, all the way to 47.5 gr.  None are hot loads by any stretch, but it's a good start.  Oh, and the bullet is 150gr SMK's.

Gonna hit the range Sunday and try them out

Looks good.  May I suggest you mark the powder load and bullet spec on the side of the case with a Sharpie.  After firing, the tape is gone, the bullet is gone, the powder is gone, and one case looks like another.  Post-firing dimensional and visual inspection of the case as related to the pre-firing configuration is important in evaluating reload performance.

YMMV.

I'm planning on shooting these at 50yds, due to the mil sites on my 03' So groups shouldn't be all that bad, but it should give me a good idea of function, and a bit of accuracy.  I may shoot a few round at 100yds as well, just depends.  Sometimes me and the sites don't get along at 100yds

I need to find me a good target now to use for the tests....

50 yds is fine with open sights. You are looking for group sizes between the various charges.

Yep, that's what I'm going for.  This rifle has made ragged holes with LC surplus before at 50yds so I know the rifle will do it

Quick question fellas.  I have a few 150gr SMK's left in this box, think I may load up a few different loads for my Garand.  I know the sweet spot for IMR 4895 is between 46-47gr, or so I have been told on here  So I'm gonna shoot for that load.

Anything else I need to know when loading up for the Garand??  I don't think i have to worry about bullet set-back or anything, as the neck tension alone is holding these bullets very well.....
