Seen a whole lot of brass in 37 years of pulling handle, new one on me.

Wut? Nato cross and a year? Black Ops?

Chinese copy, just like the 30 carbine, the 7.62 nato, and now the 5.56.

It may be old wives tale, but I read or heard that IMI left off their designator on some rounds they produced to remove the stigma associated with using Israeli ammo by some arabs, or other folks, who do not think much of the Israelites.

I found several cases like that in my brass.  Curiously, all of mine were also date-stamped "04".

So did anyone actually figure out who makes this brass?

probably made by a NATO approved ammunition manufacturer, how many are there? I don't know.

Googled some and found same brass and question on another board http://www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=130377

Last post in this link thinks it's IMI or at least IMI ammo has the same headstamp

Thanks for the links, I had found that survivalist one, but I didn't give it a lot of credibility when the guy began ranting about clandestine ops and delta force using the ammo as a calling card.

The IMI makes some sense as this brass came from an army base through a surplus auction that my dad picked up.  I know the US military has used Israeli TZZ ammo in the past so this is the most reasonable explanation so far.  The next time I see him, I will pick a few pieces up and see how it compares to LC brass.

weighing a unmarked 04 case and comparing to the weight of a marked IMI case would support, but not prove, the unmarked case is from IMI.  I would be interested when you get a hold of some of the unmarked 04 stuff if you could weigh them out and post the results
