Ok, I'm slowly gathering up what I need as far as the tools and such, and I'm getting my reloading table done, but I need to pick up a few reloading manuals.  My reloading at first will be centered around 7.7jap mainly to begin with, so the manuals I pick up need to have that data.  I have flipped through the Hornady manual, and it has some good data for it.  I do know the Speer manual doesn't have 7.7 jap, but I haven't really looked at any others.  Give me some suggestions, so I can keep a eye out...

The rest of the calibers I may get into shouldn't be a problem, as 30-06, .303, are in pretty much every manual.  7.7 jap is the only odd ball I will be reloading.

Thanks for all your help guys you've been a great resource for me over the past few weeks

Yeah, I'm thinking data may be a bit scarce on it.  I can understand Hornady, as they make the ammo commercially and such, but heck 7.7 Jap uses .311 bullets, same as .303, you'd think everyone would have data on it....

At least if i poll you guys I won't end up ordering a manual that doesn't have data I need....

Hornady 8, page 606 has 7.7 x 58 Japanese data.

150 and 174 gr bullet data.

+10 Have it, love it. Lots of milsurp data. It even has loads for the 7.62x54R using different bullet diameters which is great because until you slug one you never know what you may have.
I can't stand the Lee. I got it in a package deal. Bought the book and got a press for free. I use the press to size cast  bullets but the more I read the book the more I dislike it. It may be partly because I'm kind of old school and most of the powders listed are strange brands. Another reason is the lack of data. I was looking for a cast bullet load for a .357 and the minimum load was crazy high. Combine this with the fact some pistol powders should not be reduced so a normal person, one that does not have several manuals to compare data with is really getting short changed by the Lee manual. IMHO

I don't know if it has 7.7 Jap (my copy is 160 miles away right now), but my Sierra manual is by far my favorite.
I also have a Speer manual, a bunch of pamphlet loadbooks I got from Accurate/Ramshot powders, and a few of those single-caliber books that take load data from a bunch of different manuals for one single caliber.

I love the way the information is presented in the Sierra book, it's a very clean layout, and I like that the book comes in 3-ring binder form.

I read somewhere that the sierra book has 7.7jap loadings, not sure though haven't had my hands on one.

Sierra 5 does indeed have data on the 7.7 Jap.

The Sierra 3 ring binder format is very nice for adding pages to write down your loading notes.

Thanks!

If anyone has any other manuals not listed, check for me and report back...

I can only add that the Accurate Arms manual #1 has one page for the 7.7x58 Japanese Arisaka. They list two bullets tested, the Hornady 150 SP and the Sierra 180 SP bullets using AA2700, AA4350, and AA3100 powders. I would think the latest Accurate Arms manual to have the same data?

I have some of the manuals listed, but here's a rundown anyway:

Yes: Hornady 7th, Sierra Edition V, Hodgdon 2008

No: Barnes #4, Nosler #6, Speer #13, Hodgdon 2012

You can also go to Hodgdon's website and get load data there. http://www.hodgdon.com/

Might be a case for one of those softcover spiral bound cartridge specific books you see at the gunshows.

I have 8 or 9 manuals and only the hornady #6 has 7.7 jap, not even my old lyman or the new lyman cast bullet book have it suprisingly.

Thank you for that link!

I think the shortage of data is due to the lack of bullets to use.   I believe hornady and sierra only make bullets??

I don't know who all makes bullets. I guess that's something you'll have to look up on the respective bullet manufacturers' websites.

I guess you could always get setup to cast bullets for it too.

I checked out the Hornady manuals and the Sierra manual at Wally-mart today, and I think those will be the ones I will pick up.  The Sierra manual is pretty cool with the 3 ring binder type format, but kinda compressed as it's alot smaller than the Hornady one.  Hornady, looks to be about the best as far as data on 7.7Jap I have seen.

Be tween those 2 manuals, and the Hodgdon online data, I think I'll have enough to look through.

OP, I have found that "Cartridges of the World" (CoW) is an outstanding source for obsolete and odd ball cartridges.
