I am getting ready to load a few hundred .308 with Varget.
My Harrell and my Dillon can't seem to handle the Varget very well as we all know. Upon advisement from this esteemed body of knowledge I bought a cheap Lee Perfect Powder Measure. I broke it in by running a pound of powder through and then calibrated my scale. I set the cheap little dial to what should have been 47.0 according to the chart. After running several loads and tapping the powder and getting my stroke consistent I did ten test loads. It was very close to the 47.0 predicted by the chart. Seven of the ten were 47.2. One was 47.1 One was 47.3 One was 47.4 That is much better than I can do with my Harrell or my Dillon powder measures with Varget. Is this typical for a Lee PPM with Varget? The difference is less than 1% for the load from the highest to the lowest so I doubt that would affect accuracy. So far I am impressed with this cheap little powder loader. What say you? |

I would say that is typically what I see with Varget.
Its a long extruded powder. keep the hopper full and stay consistent with your operation. If Im loading for precision. I throw a 1/2 grain light and trickle up measuring each load. If Im loading plinking, my rifle like the light loads so I dont worry about it. just look at 50 rounds at a time to see they are consistently loaded. |
