i just got a loadmaster and so far for the price im liking it it. i have yet to mess with the powder measure yet but im working on srtting it up in stages to get it all working right.

so now to my question. im working up a new load (bought some smp844) and out of the 30 rounds i just loaded (6 diff loads of 5 each) i picked up the see through box and noticed that 5 had no primers. so i pulled the bullets and hand primed them and then completed them.

1) is there any way to know if a round has not primed before ity makes it all the way around?

2) is this a common problem and are there any simple fixes?

i probably wont touch it till this weekend.

Loadmaster is a great press, if you ditch the priming system and hand prime.

Otherwise you'll be so focused on priming, powder measure will be overlooked. Anything that robs an eye off powder just isn't worth my time.

My core focus is powder charge.

I use the primer system on my Loadmasters. Primers take some force to seat and I can tell by the amount of force applied to the handle if I've primed or not. If there is a question, I pull the brass before powder drop and take a look. I find the Gen III primer system to be quite good. you also need keep primers in the tray to keep force on the system. If you run the primers low, they will not feed well. I always keep at least 10-15 extra primers in the slide and they will feed. Good luck.

I'm kinda curious about this Generation 3 priming system mentioned(?) But the loadmasters old priming system was it's weakest link......you could get it running smoothly and I did just out of shear curiosity. But I have always liked hand priming so I skip the priming system like 1911smith. Nothing beats hand priming in nice clean primer pockets after wet stainless steel tumbling! Loadmastervideos.com has quite a few videos about the (original) priming system that may help you.......

1)  not really - unless you catch it feeling a little different.

Its funny because I never liked the primer seating on the top of the stroke because its hard to feel a stubborn primer.  But the people who like the Dillon 1050 swear its the cats meow and its the best thing about it.

2)  Yes very common - I had to stop priming on the press.  Everything I did was only a temporary fix and would mess up again.

I have been reloading .223 on a loadmaster for about a year (Lee 1000 before that) I haven't had any problems with the priming system. Maybe 1 in 1000 has a primer that is sideways. I reload the tray as soon as it is empty and "feel" the primer go in.

You can pull the case out before dropping the powder to check while you are getting everything working. I replace the (feed arm?) about every 10K rounds.
