as far being accurate. i have a barrel i want use (well, because i already have it) but as best i can tell its 1/12 twist  (oh and this is a 5.56) but its only 8" long including the chamber.

i have read that what im trying to build came factory with a 1/7 twist.

im just wondering, if i go through all the trouble to build it am i wasting my time or should i save up and try to get a 1/7 barrel?

i know this is the reloading section, but i thought everyone here knows more about this than any other section here.
but just to make a reloaing question.

if i do use the 1/12 what gr bullet should i use 50gr and no higher?

55 gr and lower for best results, altho, I had 3 Mini 14's, 1x12 twist and ithey loved the Nosler 60 SB bullets with IMR 3031.

Effectively, you'll be limited to 50, maybe 55 grain bullets with a 1-12 twist - probably even more severe, given that you want to make the barrel so short. A 1-7 twist will allow you to use pretty much anything you can fit in an AR mag. If it were me, I would save up for the 1-7.

Make sure you know nfa laws concerning <16" barrel.  Accuracy should be fine for 55 gr. You will just loose velocity with shorter barrels.  Also could have cycling issues due to short gas system.

this is for a kh53 SBR so no gas system.
