Sized about 100 cases of .223 with an RCBS X-die last night. I usually use a Lee die, and I wanted to give this X die a look-see. Anyways, the decapping pin came out in the last case. After removing it, I discovered the collet/nut that holds the pin in place was missing. Looked through all the cases I'd just processed and no luck finding it - it's gone.

Thing is, I processed and loaded 75 rounds last week using this same arrangement, with nothing unusual noted, and now I'm left wondering if the nut thingy is in one of those loaded rounds.

Should I break them down, or will shooting them be hazardous? Would the nut just be propelled out the barrel or ....?

Check the weigh of the loaded rounds, if the nut is in one you will see the difference.

The diameter of the nut is obviously smaller than the bullet diameter.
As long as there is no chance of it getting lodged in the bore it may be just fine.

On the other hand the magic round that its hiding in may act like a reduced capacity case and produce excessive pressure.

Are these max loads?

Pull'em if you are worried. Its a pain but you can recover everything including the nut.
