I'm new to reloading and I'm still getting everything setup.  I've got a Hornady L-n-L single stage press and RCBS AR15 small base die set.  Here's my issue for now, I've got a ton of brass saved and tumbled.  When I go to decap a case that has the red sealer around it, I break the decaping pin on my sizing die.  I've already killed 2 before I figured out it was those cases.  If I run a case that does not have any sealer it runs just fine.

Is this common, or am I screwing something up?

they are probably berdan primed.

The red seal is to make it waterproof

Are the head stamped PPU 08?  The PPU case is Boxer primers, but I can't decap them.  Tried two and gave up.
Was using a Lee universal decapping die. This a first for me, been reloading since the 70's.
Scrap bucket for the rest.

I have some PPU 07 that are a real pistol to decap.

I've never broken a pin, but, effort is way up there.

Like rj said, get a Lee Universal decapping die.  Pin won't break, it'll just slide out of the collet when too much pressure is applied.

Yup, PPU 07  Damn, now I've got to look through all that brass for those.

Thanks fellas.

If you lube the decapping pin every other case deprimmed with case lube and use a Lee Universal decapping die, PPU cases can be deprimmed.

But some primers, maybe 1 in 10 will just punch through.

Damn, that sucks.  I might have to look into that die, I think I've got a ton of that brass.  I'm trying to remember where I got it..  I also saw at least one of those IK 07's too.  How is it once reloaded?  Do you have the same issue with reloads or is it just the factory primer that's the problem?

The primer sealant and/or crimp is the problem.

Once you have deprimed the brass, and completed whatever PP prep you usually do, it is the same as any other brass

Lube just pin? Will give it a shot.

Yes. The pin is swaging the FH larger as it deprimes.

If you don't lube it, the pin will pull out of the decapping stem. Ask me how I know.

After I started lubing, no more problems with decapping.

I picked up one of those LEE universal dies on the way home from work today, thanks for that.  It seems to do the trick.  I'm glad too, after looking through my brass some more, I've got a shit ton of those cases.
