I happened across these cast bullets my uncle gave me.

These weigh ~149gr.  They're for .357, at least that's what's handwritten on the box.

As some of you know from my recent lead score, I know nothing about cast bullets.

Would these need some type of lube or something on them before loading.  It seems I read somewhere that cast bullets need some king of lube dies or something before seating.

Hornady swaged bullets look like that.

Hornady uses a graphite like lube on them.

Kind of a mixture of a wax and a silver graphite like powder.

I shoot Hornady swaged bullets. Keep the velocity below 1000 fps and they are accurate and do not lead up the barrel.

Two cartridges on the left are Hornady swaged bullets.

Far left swaged HB WC (hollow base wad cutter) similar to your bullet, and 158 gr SWCHP (semi wadcutter hollow point).

So you think these have been manufactured and not homecast?

They GTG as far as loading, nothing extra needed?

Do they have a wax/graphite coating like I described?

If not you will need some of the Lee liquid alox lube.

They're Hornady wadcutters. Load'em up using 148 grain data (3.0 grains of Bullseye, 3.2 of W231 or HP38 are typical for that type of bullet). No extra lube is needed.

Those bullets are swaged, not cast.

Thanks guys!!

Man,  I really need to get caught up on this cast/swaged stuff.  I had no idea there was a difference.

I'm all good on jacketed stuff, but, completely newb to unjacketed.

They seem to have something on them like you describe.  They're not just plain lead....

As noted, those are Hornady swaged bullets and have a coating on them to help prevent leading.

Load them up and shoot them.  They are accuarte bullets.

I like to leave them about 1/16 inch proud of the case, for easy loading.
