I installed the EZ Ject conversion kit for my Hornady progressive press today...boy what a difference.  Feeding 9mm is a breeze now, they used to have a tendency to lock up against my ejection wire and when they released they'd launch across the floor.    I think it was well worth the $30 to upgrade to the new system, I kinda lucked out since I work in a machine shop I was able to convert all my shell plates to use with the EZ Ject system myself without any expense.

How tough was the steel? Tool steel?
I work next to a machine shop and one of techs said he was afraid it was too tough to cut.

Not tough at all, I used a 1/4" carbide endmill with the shell plates bolted to the rotary table on a Bridgeport...it didn't cut any worse than a 300 series stainless would.

I indicated my first shell plate to find my origin, moved over 1.355 in one direction and ran the endmill around...then I fed out to 1.370 and made another pass.  I did 6 plates in my 1/2 hr lunch break with no problems.

thanks for the info. i'm glad i had mine done back at hornady cause if i had to figure out what you just said i probably would have torn up one of Lee's machines!
they just make chucks, pretty much for the oil & gas crowd.
are the shellplates made of tool steel? the tech(machine operator)will be interested.
thanks

I can't honestly say what they are made of for material, if I was to place a guess I would say most likely 4140 steel but that's merely a guess from the way it cut with a file and it's general appearance.
