I hope this isnt stupid. Im just hoping that some of you may be able to help. In a SHTF senario and I need a weapon to take I would grab my SCAR 17 in 308. I have a .22 rifle but I may not be able to take it for room. This would make blasting squirrels and rabbits messy with the 308. Is it possible to make a 308 shotshell like they have for .22s? Does anyone make them? They have them for 22s just wondering if it feezable. Is there something else that would be effective say 308 blanks with a lead ball?

A subsonic round (low velocity) is doable.

Hodgdons site has loading data for Trail Boss powder.

Yeah but wouldnt that still be a .30 calber bullet going down range? Thats still a lot of mass hitting a critter. Be nothing left for me to eat/

Then use a pistol with light loads.

Or, maybe consider a good airgun. I am sure I killed more rabbits with my airgun than anything else.
Less noise and carrying or storing pellets or BBs is no big deal.

I wonder if these would work with a load of Trail Boss?

The sabot-loaded bullet would offer very little resistence compared to a conventional 308 bullet, I would venture a guess that it would work.

If a muzzle brake is involved, the first shot might be pretty exciting (as in near instanteous muzzle brake destruction) with a normal powder charge.  With a load of Trail Boss and resulting lower velocities, the sabot would probably still impact a muzzle brake, albiet with a bit less excitment.
