I've been trying to find my hunting load for Bambi and family this year.  The group at the end of this post is about my best group ever.
This is a great hobby!

This is supposed to show 5 bullet holes.  I don't know where the 5th one went, but it wasn't within a foot of the target.

So I assumed it was in one of those holes.  Maybe not.

Bambi better hide.

Nice shooting.

First group, you didn't look close enough, there are 5 holes there.

Were you able to repeat that last group?

Not really.  Just those 5 times.

Just to be sure, you may want to shoot a group at a good factor farther than you plan to jump bambi and see that your groups hold.
A Ladder Test will help tell you what happens when the temp induced velocity changes kick in.
If the group isn't still tight within reasonable velocity changes, look for a wider node so it doesn't happen when it gets cold outside.
Most rigs show more than one good speed node with a particular recipe combination.

I can appreciate what you're saying.

Speaking of temperature, I'm concerned about the temperature of the barrel.

I tried to let the barrel cool about 30 - 45 minutes between groups with the bolt & magazine removed.  (Browning A-Bolt)

I don't think I'll have any possible shots on deer over about 75 yards, but my gun club has a 500 yd range, so I should try these at longer distances.

I've promised my dad the rest of this particular workup to shoot in his A-Bolt, but I will certainly load up more and see what happens from a completely cold barrel, and try and duplicate that group.

Good shooting!(and loading!)

Wait!

Whats that I smell?

Smells like backstraps!!!!

If you've got 75 yard shooting, they are as good as in the bag. The only reason to work any harder is if you are going out 400 or 500.

Save the rest for your dad, and good hunting.

That last one is a fine looking group.    I didn't know they made a powder for 30-06 other than 4895
