I have been reloading for about 2 years now, and had started out with the Lee hand priming tool, but hated it
I switched to a RCBS press mounted seating die, and have had good luck with that, but I was wondering whats more important? Seating the primer to the bottom of the pocket, or> seating more consistent below the case head? What I'm getting at is, when I seat primers with a hand priming tool, I can feel the primer seat right to the bottom of the primer pocket, but the depth's are any where from 002-008. When I use the RCBS seating die, the depth's are more consistent, 004-006, but I have no idea if they are seating all they way to the bottom o the pocket. |

I'd say it's more important to have the primer touching the bottom of the primer pocket than it is to have perfectly uniform seating depth. If you want uniform ignition of the primer (don't we all), then you want the primer anvil seated to the bottom of the pocket. The firing pin will go as far forward as it can to hit the primer. A few thousandths one way or an other won't make any difference.
