I just bought some wolf primers
wolf large rifle and wolf 223 primers

I know nothing about the wolf primers, I have mostly used CCI and  a very fet winchester. How does the wolf compare to the CCI and whay does wolf have a primer for just the 223 insted of just the small rifle?

I just bought 4K Wolf large pistol primers and haven't loaded any yet either.  From what I've read, sometimes they can be 100% reliable, other lots have 3~4% failure to ignite on first try.  For the price, I can accept 4 out of a hundred having to be hit twice.  I'll just save my CCI's for when I want them 100% reliable.  CCI also has primers made specifically for 5.56, they're called number 41 primers.  Their primer cups are thicker to help prevent slam-fires in autoloading rifles with free-floating firing pins (AR15).  Wolf has their equivalent and "normal" small rifle primers just like CCI.

I've used several thousand Wolf 223 primers, and never had a misfire. I've used a couple thousand Wolf small pistol primers, and never had a problem with them either.

When I compared identical loads (77 SMKs, 24.0 gr of Varget) the Wolf primers gave me a slightly lower ES and SD than CCI 400s or Rem 7 1/2s. All the average velocities were within 35 fps of each other.
According to the Wideners website, the difference between the Wolf small rifle primers is this:

The small rifle SR is similar to Rem 6 1/2s, not recommended for .223 or 5.56.

The small rifle magnum SRM has the same primer charge as the SR, but with a thicker cup.

The small rifle 223 (or 5.56) has the thicker cup of the SRM, but with a slightly hotter primer charge.

Either the SRM or SR223 can be used for 223 rem.

So far good for me also.  Have used the SR in 5.56 loads w/o any problems.  Well worth (IMHO) the money.  Just loaded about 2k brass with Wolf - will test tomarrow.....

I have had zreo problems with Wolf SRM, SP, LP and LR.

I bought mine in 2009 just before zero got in.

problems I've seen were from the press jockey not the primer, and all of those were off of a 550 at least in our group

I posted the same question about a month ago and got mixed answers also. Some had problems and some didn't. I decided to find out for myself and ordered 3000 of them to try. I've loaded 2000 of them and shot a little more than half of these so far with no problems. These were all LP. I did the same test on my own of Tula SP and have no problems with these either. I think operator error cause the 1% failure rate some are having.

Here is my post

I'm wondering how they do in .223 and .308 precision loads.  I have heard of some high power shooters using them.  Anyone here have any feedback?

Lots of fail to fire after multiple strikes with an M&P Pro 9mm.  No problems with small rifle.

All the problems I've ever seen have seen/heard about have been with the pistol primers, none with rifle.

No problems with Wolf rifle or pistol primers.
