I shot 9 loads today with the Alliant AR-Comp. The load they have listed is the max load and they told me to start 10% lower.
All loads were shot using 69SMK loaded to 2.255" OAL and 205M primers. Loads 1-5 were in FC 223x3 brass and 6-9 were LC07x4. All in 5-shot groups as a start. Temps were around 80 degrees with a mild wind@6,000ft Weapon: 16" Middy CL 1/7 BCM upper w/4x ACOG. Lower is run of the mill DPMS with Geissle SSA trigger. I usually do load development with a better scope, but I didn't feel like making the swap. My groups tend to open up .2" using the ACOG vs the other scope as well. The upper is filthy as hell because I don't care how dirty powder is, it just keeps running. Take the accuracy value here for what it is...not ideal. 1. 20.9- 1.167" 2. 21.2- .843" 3. 21.5- 1.116" 4. 21.8- 1.072" 5. 22.1- 1.286" 6. FAIL- Suffered case head separation on round 1. Seems 5th load on the LC07 was it. Other pieces of this brass showed signs of stress at the same area. Used this brass on some warm RE-15 loads prior. 7. 22.7- 1.074" (4 shots went into .540" and the group looked very good. Most likely an idiot behind the trigger. Will re-shoot and see.) 8. 23- 1.514" 9. 23.2- 1.453" (I believe this was the max load according to Alliant and where I stopped. No sign of excess pressure at all.) Not really displeased considering the glass. I will continue to work up more and see what happens. Performing much better than my 8208XBR loads so far. |
