I recently picked up two cases of the Federal XM855 rounds this past week.

I was taking a look at the brass and noticed a bunch of circlular punches on the primer rim. I was informed those type of markings were ejector marks.

I was under the impression that these were just factory rejects. But am I correct in thinking these were LC reloads?

Sorry about all the arrows but was trying to show the randomness.

Those aren't ejector marks...they would be raised up, not indented.

Then what are they?

Hmmm.. the deep indentations are not ejector marks... but the one's that are just a surface impression.. hmm.. not sure...

Has the primer crimp been removed? <–– that would be the big clue.

Not sure. All the LC brass that I have from 01 - 09 date marks have them.

Octal numbering system, they identify the machine they were made on.  The shallow dots are coincidental to the deep, clealrly defined dots which are the actaul identifiers.
I believe there are 13 stations on the SCAMP machinery at LC knocking out ammo and each station has it's own dot pattern.

When I found out my father in-law worked at LC I had his knowledge assimilated into the collective.

LC is running 24 stations, the numbering system using those dots can cover up to 36 to help identify the system that ran the batch.

I think someone posted the whole ID code on here somewhere....

You could be completely making this up and known of us would ever know....

But hey sounds good to me!

It could be the lighting....but that brass looks suspicious, it looks like that brass has been swaged, which would only happen on reloaded ammo.  The dots you are seeing aren't anything to be concerned about.

But I also note the LC 11 headstamp, and its unlikely brass produced in 2011 would have already been shot and reloaded.

The crimp looks to be in place on some of ammo.  How ever they dont look new, not even newish...  Can you post photos of some more?  The one that looks suspect is the one that has sealer/sharpie on the primer where the others dont.
