Hey guys, i don't know if this goes here or not. If not, delete it or whatever, and ill try and put it somewhere it belongs. Im wondering about this old thing i acquired today from a family member. Its some kind of old reloading press for 38 special. on the base is SWPD, the local police dept. I don't know much about it, other than it appears to be in decent working order...surface rust and patina. Any info about it or what it might be worth would be appreciated. i have no use for it to be honest...seems like a cool piece of old gear. Thanks. Sorry for the cruddy pics....

Seems to be all there. It was stored away in an old building for years. I just wiped it down a bit and oiled a few spots to see if it still functions. It still needs to be cleaned thoroughly and properly lubed i guess. Its def an interesting piece.

Star presses can go for serious money on Ebay.  Check out the presses and accessories listings.

Don't worry, this is the right place to post your Star press.

Very nice.

Need dies/parts for it?
Contact Magma Engineering, they took over making the Star.
Great presses, I've had two for the last 30 years, and not cheap.

ETA you also have the Hulme case feeder on that press. You can get a plastic tube that fits in the base, take a funnel and a bowl, glue the funnel to the bowl, drill a hole in the center of the bowl and just put hands full of cases in and they self feed by vibration. No tube filling that way

I've got a friend up around Yosemite N.P. who has a few of them. He makes a neat powder drain for them too. I'm pretty sure he's been loading on them since they were new He's in his mid-late 80's and still uses them regularly. They make quality ammo.

Thanks for the info fellas. Im not sure what I'll do with this thing. I'm sure somebody else could put it to better use than i could. It needs a little TLC and a few parts and im sure it'll still crank out ammo like a champ for somebody. I might try to horse trade it to someone local. I dont know. I'd hate to see it just get stowed away for another 30 years and neglected. It looks a little rough, but as far as i can tell everything that is there still functions 100%.
