Do the M196 tracers light right away or have a delay like the M856? Shooting my steel targets with them so have to stay away from the steel core.

The delay for like 50-75 yards.... less so than 856, but they still delay.

Seems a lot of suppliers are "out of stock".  Here's one source:http://www.ammunitionstore.com/products/223-5.56x45-Tracer-55gr-M196-Military-Surplus-Projectiles-200-Bullets.html
There's usually some auctions on GunBroker,GunsAmerica, AuctionArms, or other gun auction sites.

The "where to find.......threads" go up in the tacked thread.

But you asked a question about tracers lighting first, so your thread can stay as far as I'm concerned.

Don't know what AEroE will think.

Edited my post just to be safe. Sorry

Do you mean SS109 bullets like M855 is loaded with?  Those aren't any harder on rifle rated steel than anything else.  The just spark a lot.

Plus... I'm not sure about M196, but M856 tracers are steel jacketed anyway.

Per milspec, the 196 lights right away. In fact, I fired for quals last night and M196 meets that milspec for sure.

It wasn't just one box, either. 20 shooters, with 10 rounds spread throughout 2 magazines. M856 is supposed to light about 35 meters from you.
