I see it listed in their guides for both .223 and 6.8 SPC.

I was also actually suprised it listed a load for M855, which it seems people ask for (myself included) eventually.

So Midway has it on sale at $13 a lb and a limit of 10 lbs per customer.

So if I order 10 lbs, boosts the cost to $15.50 per lb

Bottom line - I am asking the reloader veterans what their opinion of the powder is.  I think I'll get 5 lbs no matter what - it fits my loading calibers.

Thanks in advance for any light you care to shed on this powder.

The "boost" to $15.50 per pound is hazmat and shipping.  If you only order 5 lbs... it goes up again...

I would not order less than the max amount (and nearly did yesterday).  The only reason I didn't order some is that, well, I probably won't need any more powder this year (I've still got 24 lbs of TAC on the shelf), and that's just one more load I'd have to work up...

It was the first powder I EVER used over 15 months ago and I ahavent been able to find it since. It worked very well. And was really accurrate with pulled M855 projectiles.

Here is a 10 shot group from 50 yards using uron sights, pulled M855 projectiles and 24.2gr AA2230

I rested the non FF rail onto a box to shoot this group, and for me this is an amazing group because I suck with irons and cannot see shit using them.

I burned a pound and moved on to other powders.  Works OK, but the muzzle flash is pretty impressive.

The ones shot in that target are teh crimped on in this picture.

I didnt measure OAL but I measured consistent to the cannelure.

Yes I painted the tips, I got really bored!

This is the info I saved with it:

SS109 Load....
Pulled LC M855, seated to almost top cannelure (see picture) cannelure
24.2gr(electric scale) AA2230
CCI #41 Military Primer
LC 07 brass, once fired, no trimming or deburring. Length=1.762"-1.766" w/ primer

AA 2230 and x-termintator are my go to powders for 55 gr bullets.  At that price, buy 10 pounds.

All I have ever used AA-2230 for is 223 with 55 and 62 gr FMJBT loads.

It works fine in these loads, easily the equal of BLC2 and H-335.

It used to be the cheapest powder available locally, so I ran through a lot.

Then Tac came along, and it's more accurate in my rifle, so I stocked up. (last years on sale powder)

If I needed powder for 223, I would stock up on AA-2230.

It's a ball powder that meters extremely well.

It works well for bullets up to the 60-69gr range. I have a load with a 60gr v-max that shoots very well using this powder. The price at Midway is a good one, if you buy the max.

I tried it with 75 and 77gr bullets, and ran into issues. Things got hot fast. Accuracy was not that great. It's a bit too fast for the heavier bullets. For a standard 55 or 62 gr plinking load, it is a very good powder.

Often when Midway puts this powder on sale, they put TAC on sale as well, keep your eyes peeled.

Painting: looks good - so did you use a paint in a can and just dip them or some other technique?

I'm not that bored, but it sure looks nice - so I may do 50-100.

I have just used 2230 for 6.8 loads.  Works well and I didn't notice any excessive muzzle flash.  Of course, I do have a vortex on my 6.8 so maybe that makes a difference.  MOA loads are not uncommon.

I'm wondering why a local shop is not going to handle any of the Accurate powders anymore?  I have been using 2230 and wanted a couple more lbs. and they said no more!  My friend has eight lbs. and just dropped of a container for me.

i've had good luck w\2230 and 55gr. for plinking ammo.

also use it for 308 w\147gr. fodder.

works good in dillon measures.

I can't speak for 6.8 loads but one of my favorite 223 loads is 25.0 grains of AA2230 over a 55 grain FMJBT.  I find that the accuracy compared to TAC at 25.5 grains with the same bullet, case and primer gives a slight edge to the AA2230 with my rifles.

I don't doubt it because they are both Western Powder.

Brett,

Yes it’s the same burn rate so the same loads apply.

You can use the loads for the 65gr Sierra SBT i.e. 21grains to 23.4grains.

Noob reloader here, ware it says -9.0% for 16" barrels, it means i should use 9% less powder for my 16" Ar? I just bought 10 lbs of this stuff, my first powder purchase, ill be using 55gr FMJ projectiles, ive been told to start my work up at 22.5 grains. Im not loading for super accuracy, just some decent plinking loads for the range.. Thoughts? ideas?

NO!  It means expect to have a drop of about 9% in velocity with a shorter barrel.  Load data does not change for different length barrels, velocity does.
